Please log in to join this organisation.

We are the Nursing Society at UWL , a community of dedicated and passionate nursing students committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging environment. Our mission is to enhance the academic, social, and professional experiences of nursing and healthcare students while fostering personal growth and meaningful connections.

Our society brings together nursing students across all disciplines—adult, child, mental health, and learning disability nursing—as well as anyone interested in healthcare. We aim to support students through their studies, celebrate diversity, and advocate for key issues in healthcare.

Planned Activities

We have an exciting array of events and activities planned for the year that focus on professional development, social connection, and advocacy:

    •    Fundraising: Organizing charity events such as bake sales, sponsored walks, and quiz nights to raise money for healthcare charities like the Royal College of Nursing Foundation and mental health initiatives.

    •    Cultural Events: Celebrating diversity with international food days, cultural showcases, and awareness campaigns to promote cultural competence in nursing.

    •    Social Events: Hosting mixers, game nights, and end-of-term parties to help students network and take a well-deserved break.

 Workshops and Training:

    •    Introduction to Makaton and British Sign Language (BSL): Offering basic training sessions to help members learn essential communication skills for interacting with non-verbal patients and those with hearing impairments.

    •    CPR and First Aid Training: Equipping students with life-saving skills.

    •    Guest Lectures and Career Talks: Inviting healthcare professionals to share insights and tips on excelling in nursing.

    •    Campaigning: Advocating for better placement support, student mental health resources, and awareness campaigns for underrepresented groups in healthcare.

key goals:

    1.    Foster Inclusion and Accessibility: Promote effective communication with diverse patient groups through workshops like Makaton and BSL training.

    2.    Support Professional Growth: Provide members with opportunities to enhance their skills, knowledge, and employability.

    3.    Strengthen Community: Create a strong network of nursing students who can support each other academically and socially.

    4.    Raise Awareness: Campaign on important issues, such as improving student mental health and advocating for better conditions on nursing placements.

    5.    Give Back to the Community: Partner with healthcare charities and initiatives to make a positive impact locally and nationally.

    6.    Celebrate and Connect: Offer engaging social and cultural events to create a vibrant and supportive society experience.

By integrating skill-building, advocacy, and community-building into our activities, we aim to empower nursing students to thrive academically, socially, and professionally while making a real difference in healthcare. Join us and help shape the future of nursing!
